Issue Two of Mortise & Tenon Magazine is on the presses as we speak! As you may have picked up by now, we don’t like to do anything half-hearted. Every individual magazine we ship out is wrapped in kraft paper and string with a wax-sealed 18th-century-inspired tradecard adhered to it. Last year, we had a crew of nine of us working for three days to get them all out the door. We set up long tables in my living room, turned on the music, and mused together about handcraft, the local food movement, cottage industry businesses, homesteading, etc. while we wrapped the magazines. It was the highlight of our year, deepening our friendships forever.
This year, we’re doing it again.
Mike and I briefly discussed the potential of using a fulfillment service to ship magazines but quickly decided that this wrapping party is such a community bond-building event, that we wanted keep it in-house as long as possible.
This time, you’re invited.
We are asking for help from our readers to help us launch this new issue into the world. On January 6th & 7th, we will be set up at Halcyon Grange in Blue Hill, Maine to wrap these pre-orders for shipment. It’s going to be a party. We’ll have our favorite music on, quality food coming out our ears, and bottomless coffee from the excellent barista/roaster David Dillon. For dinner, we’ll head to Barncastle, a 19th-century grandiose George Clough-designed summer residence converted to a hotel and restaurant. We’re treat you to their incredible wood-fired pizza with local beer from our favorite local brewery: Strong Brewing.
So how about it? Wanna join us? Will you help us birth this issue into the world? Be the first to see the new issue in hand. We’ll send you home with arms full of free merchandise: t-shirts, stickers, posters, and magazines. We’ll also have a workbench or two set up with a chest of tools for after-hours amusement. This kind of community bonding around handcraft is something I look forward to. We could ship magazines the conventional way: pay some company to slap a label on the magazine and send it out the door… but what’s the fun in that?
Because of packing logistics, we can only have so many people. Once we’re full, we’re full. If you want to join us, email us at info@mortiseandtenonmag.com to reserve your spot.
